Crypto payments at an online casino: what changes and what stays the same

A bonus is not a gift but credit with a price. The price can be worked out in two multiplications, before accepting the offer.

Crypto payments at a casino — what changes

Bonus offers are advertised with an amount — “up to” so much. What an offer actually delivers hangs on the conditions underneath, and those translate into euros in two steps.

The calculation

Bonus amount times wagering multiple gives the turnover needed. That turnover times the house edge gives what clearing it costs on average.

Bonus Multiple Turnover needed Expected loss at 4 %
€50 30x €1,500 €60
€100 35x €3,500 €140
€200 40x €8,000 €320
€500 35x €17,500 €700

The last column is the price. An offer is worth taking when the turnover would have happened anyway; it becomes expensive the moment it produces stakes that would not otherwise have existed. That is the whole difference, and it does not depend on the advertised amount.

The five conditions that decide the value

  1. The base of the wagering. Bonus only, or bonus plus deposit? The difference doubles the turnover needed.
  2. Game weighting. Slots usually count 100 %, table games often only 10 to 20 %, some titles not at all. Anyone preferring table games is looking at a multiple of the turnover.
  3. Maximum stake while the bonus is active. Frequently €5. A breach normally voids bonus and winnings — even when it happens by accident.
  4. The deadline. Typically 7 to 30 days. At €3,500 of required turnover and a one-week window, the offer is far tighter than it looks.
  5. The free-spin win cap. Often €50 to €100, regardless of the actual win.

What is not possible in Germany anyway

At German-licensed operators a whole category of “bonus strategies” falls away because the features are not permitted: bonus buy is not allowed, nor is autoplay, and through LUGAS nobody can be active at several permitted operators at once. Anyone reading a guide that assumes those features is not reading a guide for the German market.

The cross-operator deposit limit of €1,000 per month additionally caps the capital staked — not the turnover. The same money can be staked repeatedly, which is why a month's turnover can exceed the limit many times over.

The warning signs

  • Wagering multiples above 50x — the price then almost always exceeds the benefit.
  • Deadlines under seven days at a high multiple.
  • Maximum stakes so low that the turnover is barely reachable within the deadline.
  • Conditions worded differently in different places.
  • Bonuses credited without explicit consent.

Which games suit clearing a bonus depends on the return figure — see the piece on return and volatility. How a loyalty scheme compares is in the VIP calculation. The preparation of a session is described in this piece, and the common errors are collected in the fact check.
