Complete Casino Gaming Glossary and Terminology
This glossary explains the terms that appear in game rules, bonus conditions and paytables — sorted alphabetically, each entry in two or three sentences. Use the index to jump straight to a letter.
Where Germany applies its own rules — stake limit, minimum interval between spins, cross-operator deposit limit — the entry says so, because international explanations regularly differ on exactly those points.

Autoplay
A function that launches a set number of spins automatically. It is not available at operators licensed in Germany, where every spin has to be triggered individually.
B
Bankroll
The amount deliberately set aside for playing, kept apart from other money. It limits the loss of a session only if it is fixed beforehand and entered as a limit in the account.
Bonus balance
A balance tied to conditions, payable only once the wagering requirement is met. Until then it is not money but a claim with obligations attached.
Bonus buy
The option to purchase a free-spin feature instead of triggering it. It is not permitted in Germany, so guides built around it describe other markets.
C
Cashback
A share of a period's losses credited back. What matters is whether it returns as real money or again as bonus balance — in the second case wagering terms apply afresh.
D
Dealer
The person who deals or spins at a live table. At blackjack their behaviour is fixed entirely by house rules; they make no decision that shifts the outcome.
Demo mode
Playing without a stake for testing purposes. It is not available at operators licensed in Germany.
Deposit limit
The ceiling on deposits over a period. Germany applies a cross-operator limit of €1,000 per month; a lower personal limit can be set at any time and takes effect immediately.

E-wallet
A payment service sitting between bank account and gaming account. It usually shortens the transfer leg of a withdrawal, not the operator's review.
F
Free spins
Spins without your own stake, usually tied to a specific game. Three details decide their value: the stake per spin, any cap on winnings, and the wagering requirement on the proceeds.

German State Treaty on Gambling 2021
The legal basis for licensed online gambling in Germany. It produces the stake limit, the minimum interval between spins, the deposit limit, the panic button and the OASIS exclusion register.

House edge
The payout rate seen from the operator's side: a 96 percent return means a 4 percent edge. It acts on total turnover, not on the individual round.
K
KYC (identity check)
Verification of identity and address before the first withdrawal. It can usually be completed right after registration, which noticeably shortens the first payout.

Live casino
Tables with a real dealer streamed on video. Pace, table limits and data use differ markedly from slots; the house edge, by contrast, sits in the table rules.
Loss disguised as a win
A result returning less than the stake yet celebrated with animation and a winning sound. The effective counter costs nothing: read the balance, not the animation.
Loyalty point
The unit of account in a tier programme. Only the conversion rate is informative: how much turnover yields a point, and how many euros a point returns.
LUGAS
The cross-operator player system used in Germany to enforce the deposit limit and prevent simultaneous play. It ensures nobody is active at several licensed operators at once.
M
Maximum stake
The ceiling on a single stake. German slots cap it at €1 per spin; bonus terms often add a separate cap, and exceeding it usually costs both bonus and winnings.
Minimum interval between spins
The mandatory five-second pause between two spins on German slots. It caps play at 720 spins per hour, which limits turnover directly.

Near miss
A result where the decisive symbol lands just off the line. It pays exactly what any other non-winning spin pays — nothing — yet is demonstrably processed differently from a clear miss.
O
OASIS (exclusion register)
The central exclusion register for every operator licensed in Germany. An exclusion applies immediately and everywhere; it can be requested by the player and lifted no earlier than three months later.
P
Panic button
The mandatory control that locks access for 24 hours. It takes effect immediately and without a confirmation step.
Payline
A fixed pattern across the reels on which symbol combinations count. The number of lines affects the stake per spin, not the payout rate.
Payout rate (RTP)
The share of all stakes a game returns across a very large number of rounds. At 96 percent the game keeps on average 4 of every 100 euros staked. The figure is in the game's info panel and says nothing about a single session.
Paytable
The overview of which symbol combination pays what and which extra features exist. It also states whether a minimum stake is required for access to a jackpot.
Progressive jackpot
A prize that grows with every stake until it is triggered. The contribution to it is already included in the payout rate and reduces the regular part of the return.
R
Random number generator (RNG)
The mechanism producing each result independently of the last. A certified generator knows neither balance nor history — claims about a machine being "due" assume that certification has failed.
S
Scatter
A symbol that works regardless of paylines and usually triggers free spins. How many are needed is stated in the paytable.
Session reminder
The mandatory reminder of how long play has lasted. It is the one interface feature that supplies a time cue instead of removing one.
Side bet
An additional bet at a table, for instance on a pair in the opening cards. Side bets carry a considerably higher house edge than the base game without exception.
T
Table limit
The minimum and maximum stake at a table. Both are shown before you sit down and decide whether a budget fits that table at all.
V
Volatility
How winnings are distributed around the payout rate. High volatility means long runs without a hit and rare large wins — at an identical rate.
W
Wagering requirement
The multiple a bonus has to be played through. Bonus amount times the multiple gives the turnover needed; that times the house edge gives what meeting it costs on average.
Wild
A symbol that substitutes for others and completes combinations. Exceptions, for instance against scatter symbols, are stated in the paytable.
Withdrawal time
The span between requesting a withdrawal and the money arriving. It has two parts: the operator's review and the transfer itself — only the second depends on the method chosen.
